Small Print

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

I saw the small print notice on the box with my new propane outdoor grill in it just before the checkout guy ran his magic ray gun across the bar code, and the cash register said ca-ching. It said,  Free assembly available.  I froze. My Lady Wonder Wench was with me, and she said,  What’s the matter?  Not wanting to stammer in public, I simply pointed to the notice. She immediately went into wise guy wife mode. She said,  Don’t worry about that, you can ask Randy next door to help you with it.   Oh yeah?  I replied  in that incisive, confident, worldly way that is the trade mark of  Louie-Louie Generation  guys every where.

Second Comment

This is Don’s second comment:

On another note, can anyone explain to me why people feel those of us who serve in the military are killers. I was home after training to be a Navy Hospital Corp and was visiting a friend of mine at a roller rink. I was in my winter uniform of a navy blue shirt and pants and a tie. A young boy stood there watching me and asked me a question “Have I killed anyone yet?” Without missing a beat I turned and said “No have you?  Son I was trained to save lives not take them.” This happened in the early eighties.
What people don’t know is that not only do Corpmen serve with the Navy, but we can also serve with the Marines. But when I put on the uniform I become a murderer? What does that say for what we’re teaching our kids? Is this why we have the problems we have today. Kids having so little regard for life? I know there are really good kids out there, but why doesn’t the media tell us about them.

Anyone…kid, grownup, or old fart…who would think something like that, dis-honors himself, his parents, his school, his preacher, and worst of all…the rest of us who haven’t set him straight. It’s not the media’s fault. Media is just a business. They give us what they think we want to hear, so we give them our attention…for which they get big bucks.

This kind of twisted thinking comes from a despicable, hypocritical, political and religious agenda that has  been trying to wrench the the honest and loving heart out of America. But guess what ! The heart is still beating. And America will recover. And when it does…it will forgive the kid, the parents, the schools, and the preachers. I think it will take a little longer for the rest of us to forgive our selves. And it should. But then...”with malice toward none” we will do what we always do. We will do better.

That’s a promise, Don

This just in from Proud Podcast Participant Don Miller, in answer to the previous Quickie:

I feel it’s they pay more attention to what’s going on around them. We tend to take our ladies for granted. We feel that we men are all that and a bag of chips. By doing so we tend to miss details that would make us as correct as our female friends. Our ladies would fight to the end for us, as we would for them.

Are the always right? Or are they strong enough to stand face to face with us and tell us our logic is flawed. Yes we bring home our pay, but our mates work with our books to pay the bill. They also take care of our children, keep our home, and make our meals. But yet they find enough time to tell us we’re wrong and still love us, and we love them all the more for it. I not sure this is the answer, but it sure makes sense.

It sure does Don. Thank you.
